Daily Dig #22: Slight of hand won't separate your body from the dirt you're standing on today

Modest Mouse - You're the Good Things
Modest Mouse's EP Everywhere And His Nasty Parlour Tricks is frequently one of my favorite albums. Depth of lyrical content and musical creativity is something Modest Mouse never fails to excel in.

Daily Dig #20: I could not recall a more perfect fall cause when I looked up into your eyes, it didn't hurt at all.

The Postal Service - Be Still My Heart
We've all heard Such Great Heights and the various, excessive covers of it, which can never, will never, and should never measure up to the original, imvho. Be Still My Heart is one of their lesser known songs. I'm sure I found it by pure luck. It's one of their best (yes, I said it; best) songs.

Daily Dig #19: If Noah had the benefit of hindsight on his ship, he could have snatched two unicorns and left behind the m. f-ing pigs.

Aesop Rock - Pigs
This isn't one you'll want to share with Mom & Pop, kay?
Yeah, yeah, it's been a while. I'm taking nineteen hours.
Things is crazy. Wish me luck at the callback tonight!

SQUAREPUSHERS-LUCENT EP

So. I was going to totally fucking post Antidotes, because I am listening to it right now, but look at that, it's right below this post.
So instead,
Squarepusher-Lucent EP
Photobucket
It's pretty epic. Breakbeats, mostly. Did you ever play Streets of Rage? Yeah, this is basically the soundtrack to that game.
It's a great set of tracks ot listen to while you're playing your online games, as I do frequently.
I will probably edit this to add a download link.....
But there's a torrentreactor link if you care.

Complimentary Compilation #1: Retrograde

With tunes by Fiest, Radiohead, the Blow, Yo La Tengo, Eels, +/-, and more.
Right click to download RETROGRADE

Allow me to apologize for the lack of Daily Digs these past few days.
The spring semester has officially begun and things are a bit hectic at the University.
Daily Digs should be returned to their regular daily dosage by next week.
For now, enjoy Retrograde (rather than fretting about Mercury's current retrograde).

Antidotes

Do I even have to say anything else? FOALS speak for themselves.

Daily Dig #18: We'll both be pale and gloomy. If I am a monster, she is a monster too.

Stakka Bo - Monsters

From the soundtrack for the film Spun.

Daily Dig #17: Brothers like me know to be squeaky clean, play it cool for the parents.

Natalie Portman's Shaved Head - Me + Yr Daughter
Natalie Portman's Shaved Head's debut album Glistening Pleasure explodes with high energy, dirty beats, and sometimes humorously ridiculous lyrics (as in Beard Lust). All I can say about this track is... well, if I were to ever consider participating in an amateur drag show, this would be my performance song of choice. I'll leave you with that scorching mental image and attempt to win back your respect at another time.

Battle

It has been a quiet year from Patrick Wolf. After releasing his album the Magic Position in February 2007 he has spent some time touring, playing festivals, and writing new music for his upcoming album Battle. The forthcoming album will be produced by Alec Empire of Atari Teenage Riot and Digital Hardcore fame. Epic.

Patrick Wolf blogs...

"So, with my label, there are two ways to go about things. The dangerous route, that many are taking is to take money from city investors… and then basically they have a huge share in your band and a say or filter on your creative output – basically like being on a major label. Or, the second option is "Bandstocks" which to me sounds the most exciting, and is the route I have chose.

Basically, anyone can invest in a share of the album soon to be released. The more people that invest, the better the packaging, the better the mastering, the bigger the budget for videos and tours etc… the more fantastic the album is… the bigger the tribe… the bigger the battle, and bigger the victory in my language. If you need the finer details then go over to www.bandstocks.com, to hear some snippets of the album, and read all about it! All those that invest get the opportunity to come to secret rehearsals, and to get a limited edition amazing version of the album, get the album first, get first dibs on tickets for the tour. I'll invite you all over for a big homemade Wolf stew and a round of grog when I win my Grammy…"

It seems Mr. Wolf isn't seeing enough contributions, and I personally would hate to see Battle lost.

There is a mix up on his Myspace if you wish to hear.

Daily Dig #16: The ice of Boston is muddy and reflects no light in day or night and I slip on it every time.

The One

Does anyone feel like dancing? I have an album for you. Shinichi Osawa's The One. This DJ and former Bassist of Mondo Grosso has taken the European club scene by storm by putting out solid drum lines, warbling a plenty, and a slew of remixes to many popular songs. I listened to The One while driving around yesterday and man did I feel great.

Osawa has done a little work with Digitalism, Felix Da Housecat, and Ayumi Hamasaki.

Music and tour dates here.

Daily Dig #15: Are you hoping for a miracle?

Steve Aoki - Helicopter
(Weird Science Remix, Feat. Peaches, With Bloc Party

As a Bloc Party listener, I'll check out practically any remix of their music. Especially Helicopter. The song takes a completely different tone in this one. Steve Aoki is an editing genius which is obvious after listening to three or more tracks from the meticulous album Pillowface And His Airplane Chronicles.

Dystopia

Midnight Juggernauts. Truly an amazing band. Their album of 2008, Dystopia has got to be one of my favorite albums this year. With amazing singles like out into the galaxy (which taps into Bowie-esque territory), and Shadows ( a soft and haunting electronic dance jam), it was practically made for the radio. It may not get much airtime state side, but these boys are booming in Europe and Australia. By mixing glam, with dance, and a little bit of mystery thrown in this Modular act has really raised the bar on pop music.

Daily Dig #12: How 'bout the tree back your house where the owls go?

Architecture in Helsinki - The Owls Go
Oh, Architecture in Helsinki... What can be said? These are a couple of interesting folk from down under who just like to create exquisitely strange tunes. The AIH fans who started with In Case We Die or Places Like This might have a giant question mark above their head due to the frenetic, somewhat jazzy style of this song. Shrug it off; the song's pretty rad.

Daily Dig #11: To see something in me is to fall in love with a B film.

Faded Paper Figures - B Film
B Film is without-a-doubt my favorite track from their debut album, Dynamo. What gets me are the viral samples and clever lyrics. Their Postal Service feel is made better with a different electronic flavor. If you dig this song, don't miss Metropolis or Polaroid Solution.

"If you believe a hand on your sleeve..

... could pull you over. Because you know where ever you go, I'll be over your shoulder."

A cute and catchy line from Cut Copy's latest single Far Away. From their sophmore album In Ghost Colours, Far Away is a cascading and twinkling tune that you just can't help but tap your foot to. If you have not listened to the entire album perhaps you should, or better yet, Cut Copy is coming back to America from the land down under for another tour. See them live!

Music and tour dates.

Daily Dig #10: I know I question things too quickly, but I've never questioned if I've loved.

Regina Spektor - Aquarius
By now, Regina Spektor should be a household name. If you haven't caught on to Soviet Kitsch, you probably at least recognize the song Fidelity from her most recent album Begin to Hope. That song at the end of the Prince Caspian film? Yep, Regina.
Well, through piracy, one can find some live recordings of albumless material. These songs are actually some of my favorites of Regina's vast musical repertoire. Aquarius is one such song. While the sun doesn't move into Aquarius until round abouts the 21st of this month (I'm an astro nerd, among other things), I feel this song is an appropriate way to start off the year.
Yeah, 2009!
